AUXILIARY BOARD

BEVERLY BROWN

PRESIDENT 3RD YEAR

I was born in Ohio and grew up in Tampa, Florida. I graduated from King High School. I raised two sons. I worked in the dental field for many years. I married my husband Phil, an Army veteran, in 1993 and moved to Safety Harbor. I became a lifetime member of VFW Post 10093 in 2020 and became the Auxiliary President in 2021.

I was born in Ohio and spent my early childhood with my grandmother on the family farm. I learned quickly about hard work and avoiding the “mean” hogs and “scary” bulls. Growing up in Florida, I was required to handle household chores as my father was a disabled veteran of the Korean conflict.  I am married to an Army veteran, and I became interested in the Safety Harbor Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; I joined in 2020 and quickly became involved with the Auxiliary goals of support for our veterans.    As President of Post 10093 VFW Auxiliary, I continue to work hard and avoid the “scary bulls.”    A friendly, welcoming leader, Bev demonstrates she embraces the primary goal to honor the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform.

KEN CARRIERO

CHAPLIN/PATRIOTIC INSTRUCTOR 4TH YR

I was born in and grew up in New Jersey. I initially thought of becoming a Catholic priest but soon realized that I would have a hard time with celibacy.   Therefore, I moved on to college and received a degree in Electrical Engineering planning to go into the aviation field. I paid part of my college tuition playing drums in a rock band, which is how I met my wife. While I was in college my brother joined the Air Force and was sent to the Vietnam war and finally returned safely. Upon my graduation in 1970 the aviation field was slowing down.  I finally found a position in a medical company and transitioned into designing hemodialysis equipment. Eventually I started my own company known as Biosystems. By the middle 80’s most of the large medical companies were involved in hemodialysis, so Biosystems was sold.  The sale prompted moving myself and my family to Florida. We researched schools in Florida and found one that was perfect for my children in Pinellas County.  We also found a great house in Safety Harbor and have lived in Safety Harbor ever since. However, the move to Florida created another career change.  I started a consulting company doing site locations for outpatient dialysis centers which eventually gravitated tosite locations for nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The consulting company expanded real estate brokerage.  In time I received my commercial real estate license and added seniors housing brokerage to my repertoire of business activities.  I joined the VFW Auxiliary with my brother sponsoring my membership.
